Karen Foley, an experienced business and communications professional, has been writing her blog successfully for the Bangor Daily News since 2011. By successful, she means a few people read it, and she has not been sued, stalked or fired since starting it. Originally from Rhode Island, she has lived in Maine for over 26 years. Like many flatlanders, she came to live in the woods and “raise chickens, vegetables and babies!” When she had her fill of that, she packed up her clan and moved to Bangor where she raised four of her own children and a few extras who showed up at the house. Now divorced, with children all grown, she traded her house for a city apartment and is thoroughly enjoying all the adventures of middle age! Foley, a life-long, non-traditional student, completed an Associate Degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Women’s Studies at age 43 and finished a Bachelor of University Studies degree with minors in both English and Women’s Studies at age 49! She is also a contributing writer to another blog, “Not Your Mother’s Menopause,” hot flashes of information, inspiration and humor for cool women!
